چکیده

The main problem when going from taskoriented dialogue systems to interactive restricted-domain question answering systems is that the lack of task structure prohibits making simplifying assumptions as in task-oriented dialogue systems. In order to address this issue, we propose a solution that combines representations based on keywords extracted from the user utterances with machine learning to learn the dialogue management function. More specifically, we propose to use Support Vector Machines to classify the dialogue state containing the extracted keywords in order to determine the next action to be taken by the dialogue manager. Much of the content selection for clarification question usually found in dialogue managers is moved to an instance-based generation component. The proposed method has the advantage that it does not rely on an explicit representation of task structure as is necessary for task oriented dialogue systems.

Investigating Embedded Question Reuse in Question Answering

The investigation presented in this paper is a novel method in question answering (QA) that enables a QA system to gain performance through reuse of information in the answer to one question to answer another related question. Our analysis shows that a pair of question in a general open domain QA can have embedding relation through their mentions of noun phrase expressions. We present methods f...

Open-domain textual question answering techniques

Textual question answering is a technique of extracting a sentence or text snippet from a document or document collection that responds directly to a query. Open-domain textual question answering presupposes that questions are natural and unrestricted with respect to topic. The question answering (Q/A) techniques, as embodied in today’s systems, can be roughly divided into two types: (1) techni...

Flexible End-to-End Dialogue System for Knowledge Grounded Conversation

In knowledge grounded conversation, domain knowledge plays an important role in a special domain such as Music. The response of knowledge grounded conversation might contain multiple answer entities or no entity at all. Although existing generative question answering (QA) systems can be applied to knowledge grounded conversation, they either have at most one entity in a response or cannot deal ...

Handling Information Access Dialogue Through QA Technologies - A Novel Challenge For Open-Domain Question Answering

A novel challenge for evaluating open-domain question answering technologies is proposed. In this challenge, question answering systems are supposed to be used interactively to answer a series of related questions, whereas in the conventional setting, systems answer isolated questions one by one. Such an interaction occurs in the case of gathering information for a report on a specific topic, o...

Optimizing question answering systems by Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO)

One of the most important research areas in natural language processing is Question Answering Systems (QASs). Existing search engines, with Google at the top, have many remarkable capabilities. But there is a basic limitation (search engines do not have deduction capability), a capability which a QAS is expected to have. In this perspective, a search engine may be viewed as a semi-mechanized QA...
